Money and Relationships

Following up on our email earlier this week about having the “money talk” with your partner (you can read it here if you missed it), we wanted to share an article from CNN Money with specific advice for unmarried couples. Check the whole thing out here. A few of the points we really liked:

On honesty:

It might be uncomfortable, but partners should have detailed — and frank — conversations about their finances.

On joint bank accounts:

unless you’re confident both of you are in this for the long haul, it’s best to consider keeping your bank accounts separate.

On co-signing for loans:

Co-signing means you are equally responsible for paying it back. A bank doesn’t care if your girlfriend cheated on you or your boyfriend disappeared without a word.
