A legal guardian is a person appointed by a court to care for and manage the assets/property of a person who is not of legal age (the “ward”) or deemed incompetent for a period of time. The legal guardian for a minor child is usually named in a will and the courts will generally honor parents’ selection named in this way. They act as primary caretaker providing food, clothing and shelter.
