Important Tax Dates to Keep Track Of
It’s tax time! Don’t worry, you still have a couple of months until they’re due. We’ll spend the next few weeks focusing on taxes and getting you ready to file. This week, we’ll cover important dates you need to know, documents to be on the lookout for, and a preview of the rest of the series.
Dates You Need To Know
January 27, 2020: IRS began accepting tax returns.
January 31, 2020: Last day for employers to mail W-2 Forms to their employees and for companies to furnish 1099 Forms reporting for non-employee compensation (independent contractors), bank interest, dividends, and distributions from a retirement plan.
February 15, 2020: Last day for businesses to mail 1099’s for transactions like the sale of stocks, mutual funds, bonds, etc from a brokerage account (1099-B).
April 15, 2020: Tax return due date (unless you file an extension) AND last day to contribute to an IRA (traditional or Roth) and/or Health Savings Account (HSA) for the 2019 tax year.

Starting next week, we’ll discuss the changes for the 2019 filing year (they’re minimal compared to last year!) along with all the ways to file your return. Then we’ll cover how your W-4 withholding impacts your taxes and the importance of updating it every year, move on to tax credits and then complete the series with deductions (standard and itemized).
