What is “vesting” and how can it affect you?
Last week we talked about 401(k) matching. If your company offers a 401(k) match, there’s a chance it may also involve “vesting.”
If your 401(k) does include vesting, it just means that the matching dollars your company contributes will take some time to become fully yours. If you leave before you are fully vested, some or all of the matching contributions to your 401(k) would be lost (but your contributions are always 100% yours).
We have a short video that explains vesting in more detail right here.
