Passive management, or passive investing, is a way of investing broadly in a general market or part of the market without making specific decisions about what to buy and sell on an ongoing basis. It involves buying and holding investments designed to reflect the overall market, or a part of the market. Trading is infrequent and management fees are much lower, making passive investment less expensive than active. Index funds are a common tool for passive investing.
