target date fund

A target date fund is an investment option, usually a mutual fund, designed to let people choose a fund based on a single factor: a “target retirement date” near their own intended retirement. The investments in the fund are managed to reduce risk and become more conservative as the target date approaches. These funds are often found as 401(k) plan options and are used almost exclusively for investing for retirement.
